At McTighe Landscaping, we had the privilege of enhancing the outdoor living space of a Sunnyvale Residence. Our goal was to create a beautiful, functional environment that would be visually pleasing, functional, and increase the value of the home, while providing a relaxing space for the homeowners to enjoy year-round. This case study highlights the specific areas targeted for landscaping, the products and materials used, and the overall results of the project.
The Sunnyvale Residence started with an outdated and under utilized outdoor space. The small – medium sized backyard had minimal landscaping which lacked a vibrant, functional, and inviting charm the homeowners envisioned.
To rejuvenate the Sunnyvale Residence, our landscaping team developed a comprehensive plan focused on both aesthetic and functional improvements. The key components of the plan were:
Our focus was to improve the overall appearance of the backyard. We installed a custom paver walkway, and a bench retaining wall. The lawn was rejuvenated with fresh sod, and native shrubs were strategically placed to add depth and color, using high-quality organic soil to ensure plant health. We installed a spacious paver patio, perfect for outdoor dining and entertaining.
Landscape Lighting
To enhance the beauty of the property after dark, we installed energy-efficient LED landscape lighting. Pathway rail and step lights were placed along the new walkways, to improve safety.
While accent lighting was used to highlight the beautifully, mature existing palms. Both enhancing nighttime ambiance
Our team carefully selected a variety of plants that thrive in the Sunnyvale climate. We incorporated native shrubs, perennial flowers, and ornamental grasses to ensure year-round color and texture. The garden beds were topped with organic mulch to promote healthy growth and retain moisture.
During the project, we encountered a few challenges: The biggest challenge we faced was incorporating new material such as the pavers and wall material into an existing landscape and making it appear as one cohesive yard.
The backyard soil was compacted and nutrient-poor, requiring significant preparation before planting could begin.
Drainage Issues:
There was a drainage issue in the backyard that had to be addressed to prevent water accumulation around the new patio.
We overcame these challenges by installing a bench retaining wall, and amending the soil with high-quality organic compost.
To achieve the desired transformation, we used the following high-quality landscaping products and materials for the installment.
High-quality concrete and natural stone pavers for the walkway and patio.
Premium-grade sod for a lush lawn, organic soil amendments for healthy garden beds, and native plants chosen for their suitability to the Sunnyvale climate.
Energy-efficient LED pathway lights, Vista Rail/Step, and accent up-lights for the existing palm trees.
High-quality, durable concrete and natural stone pavers were used to create durable and attractive surfaces.
The homeowners were delighted with the final result, noting that the new landscaping was not only a functional and significantly beautiful transformation of their property, but also increased its overall value.
The project successfully met all initial goals, overcoming challenges. With the combination of aesthetic enhancements and practical installations, McTighe’s Landscaping Team created an outdoor space the homeowners can enjoy for many years to come.
Client testimonials speak volumes about our quality and commitment.
